Project Idea: A Garden of Light

Outdoor lighting for beauty and safety can extend the use of your gardens and entertaining spaces into the night. Safety is always the first priority in a lighting design. Anywhere a hazard such as a steps and changes in grade or material occurs should have lights to prevent someone from falling in the dark. Secondly, lighting can be used to create wonderful effects in relationship to your landscape. Some of the effects created with lighting include uplighting into a tree, moonlighting down from a tree, spotlighting to accent your house or a focal point, backlighting to create a silhouette, direct lighting to create shadows, or reflected lighting off of a structure. It is best to create a preliminary design and test your ideas at twilight before permanently installing your lights. Well designed lighting plans can create romance and excitement around your house all year long.
